Electricity is an electric current used or regarded as a source of power. Everything in the universe is made of little particles called atoms. Each atom has more particles even smaller inside called protons and electrons. An electron has negative charge. Protons have a positive charge. Positive charges and negative charges keep on trying to move close together. However two positive charges will push away from each other and also two negative charges will push away from each other too. Electricity results when electrons are pushed and pulled from atom to atom. Electrons can be moved by rubbing one object against another like balloons. Electricity is energy. It can be seen in a bolt of lightning. Scientists have learned to generate, or create, electricity. Technology is the use of knowledge to create tools or new devices. Throughout history, technology has made many people’s lives so much easier. Electric circuits are paths for transmitting moving electricity or electric current. An electric circuit has to have power for the electricity to flow through. Benjamin Franklin discovered that lightning is electricity too. Electricity has been here for many years.
