Dormouse
Description: Dormice have a very unique description. Dormouse is a category with 27 different types of species in 3 different sub families. Dormice look like mice but they aren’t even related. Dormice have dark facial markings, large eyes, rounded ears, reddish or grayish fur, and furry tails. Dormice are usually 3-7.5 inches. Unfortunately they are endangered.
Habitat: Dormice live in many places and can be found easily. Dormice live in trees. They can be found in many places like bushes. They can be found on the ground. They hibernate in holes in the ground during the winter. Dormice are found in the eastern part of the world like Asia. They are also found in France, India, and some regions in the United States of America.
Diet: Dormice have an interesting diet. Dormice eat seeds and many other things like bird eggs and fruits. Dormice eat nuts, berries, leaves, flower, grains, and little insects. Dormice eat spiders and many small rodents.
Breeding: Dormice breed once twice a year. Baby dormice are born without any fur and their life span can be up to 5 years. When dormice are born, they don’t open their eyes for 18 days.
Interesting Facts: Dormice can be very interesting. Did you know the dormice are the only members of the myoxidae family? Their classification is Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Chordata, Class: Mammalia, Order: Rodenta, Family: Gliridae. Did you know that some Dormice eat other Dormice?
