Deer
There are many species of deer in the world, deer belong to the class of mammals, the order artiodactyl, the family cervidae, the genus Elaphodus, and the species; deer. All deer have habitats. Deer can be found in many different places such as forests, swamps, deserts, and tundras. Deer can also be found in many different countries. They can be found in Europe, Asia, The western hemisphere, Canada, and America.
The deer in general are not endangered, but the numbers slightly drop from hunting. One species of deer, the lesser mouse deer, is extinct. Most deer are not in danger as of now but some fear that they might become endangered due to hunting.
Deer look almost like an odd, small horse. The male deer has antlers that they use as weapons during the mating season to fight other bucks. The females, on the other hand, don’t have antlers. Does are female deer. Deer have natural colored fur in different shades. The colors are shades of browns, blacks, and whites. All young deer have white spots on their back. Young male deer have “fuzzy” antlers.
Deer eat many things. They eat plants, grass, shoots, twigs, bark, shrubs, and cud. Deer have a vast supply of these foods so they are almost always eating. Deer can even eat frozen grass when snow melts. When deer make cud they half eat their food, half digest it and almost throw it up, deer are almost always chewing cud. Deer chew on cud to help them digest things that were too hard to digest before.
There are many interesting facts about deer. Deer go on seasonal migrations, to get away from the cold or get to warmth. Baby deer are called fawns and can stand a little bit after birth. Deer come from a large family, pigs, cattle, camels, antelope, giraffes, and hippos. The most common of the deer species are the white tailed deer. The deer’s meat is called venison. Venison is a tough meat. Deer also have an extremely good hearing.
Deer are very interesting animals that live in almost any climate. Deer are cautious animals and most likely want nothing to do with us. Deer are even toed mammals.
